Forbes: Piper-Heidsieck in Mother’s Day Gift Guide included Piper-Heidsieck in the April 19, 2019 article Mother’s Day Gift Guide: Tbe Best Champagnes For Mom by Cathrine Todd.

“And so for the mother who makes possible the impossible, this classic Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut is a wonderful gift. The color is beautiful on this Champagne with a glint of gold shimmering among the bubbles and it has lemon meringue notes with hints of white flowers and croissants with gentle, fine bubbles caressing the palate.”

Capital Gazette: Piper-Heidsieck in Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Capital Gazette included Piper-Heidsieck in the February 6, 2018 article Wine, etc.: Wine is the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day.

“Most men will default to the usual gift: an effortless but very expensive, cringe-worthy dinner out. Your restaurant thanks you. But the adventurous will create something more original. Maybe a handmade greeting card, a walk in the park or — egad — an engagement ring.

Don’t do anything rash. Take it from us, keeping Valentine’s Day simple has been just as satisfying to our spouses once you get past the courtship. Some flowers, a card or a home-cooked dinner at home works fine. But no matter how simple the celebration, we’ve always have celebrated Valentine’s Day with wine — Champagne to start and a nice red over a hearty meal.

New Jersey Family: Piper-Heidsieck in Valentine’s Day Dining Guide

New Jersey Family mentioned Piper-Heidsieck in the January 25, 2018 article Make a Date With Your Valentine at One of These Next-Level NJ Restaurants. Piper-Heidsieck is on the wine list at City Perch restaurant in Fort Lee.

“This resto is the concept of Chef Sherry Yard, a three-time James Beard Award winner (you might recognize her from Food Network), and is just downstairs from the super lux iPic movie theater, where you can sip in signature cocktails and apps during the film…Splurge on special Piper-Heidsieck champagne pairings.”

The New York Times features Piper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage Brut NV in Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Rosé Sauvage HDPiper-Heidsieck Rosé Sauvage Brut NV was featured as the only sparkling wine in The New York Times’ Valentine’s Day 2018 Gift Guide.

Lifestyle writer Shivani Vora said, “It’s not just for summer. Rosé Sauvage, meaning wild rosé in French, isn’t the typically pink-hued bubbly: It’s made with a high-proportion of Pinot Noir grapes and has a full-bodied, fruity taste. And, the pink wrapping along with the red bow makes the bottle all the more gift-able.”

The Piper-Heidsieck winery is located in the heart of Champagne, in Reims, France. The region of Champagne produces the most discerning and delicate sparkling wines in the world. This unique, fruity Champagne, carefully crafted from over 100 crus, is guaranteed to delight all the senses.

A Valentine’s Pick in Forbes

forbesBrian Freeman in Forbes picks his Valentine’s Day sparklers.

Of course, if you really want to make a statement, opt for a large-format bottling of bubbly—as I heard often last time I was in Champagne, a magnum is the perfect size bottle for two people to share. Champagne Piper-Heidsieck’s Brut Cuvée NV is a great one for around $100—a fantastic price for a magnum this well-crafted and food-friendly; their winemaker, Régis Camus, is one of the best in the business—and Champagne Billecarte-Salmon’s excellent Brut Reserve NV in magnum is just a bit more expensive (approx. $110).

The exclusive Oscars red magnum with a gold film design encircling the bottle is not available for sale BUT you can sip the same bubbly: elegant, refreshing, fruit-forward, balanced, and award-winning Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut NV (around $45 for a standard 750 ml bottle.) Created in 1785, Piper-Heidsieck is one of France’s oldest and most awarded Champagne houses. Piper-Heidsieck’s winemaker, Régis Camus, has been named “Sparkling Winemaker of the Year” eight times over the past ten years (statistically speaking, this may make Régis the Meryl Streep of Champagne!) …

The Drinks Business: Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut, Rare Are Champagne Masters

This year’s Champagne Masters blind tastings by the The Drinks Business magazine brought recognition to two gems in the PIPER-HEIDSIECK portfolio.

“Moving into the £30-40 price band, but staying within the Non-Vintage category … attracting yet more praise in this category was the sample from Piper-Heidsieck, which, as our first Master of the tasting, became the top example of accessibly-priced NonVintage, benefitting from plenty of fruit and freshness and a lovely toasted bready character along with that classic Champagne chalky taste on the finish.”

“The Vintage and Prestige Cuvée categories showed that a range of recent vintages are producing high-class Champagnes, although when the 2002s featured, they tended to perform better than other years – and recommended in particular is the De Castelnau 2002 for its price-quality-ratio and the Rare 2002 from Piper-Heidsieck, which may be expensive, but is an outstanding fizz.”

Ed McCarthy Rates Rare Rosé 98 Points

rare-rose-2007-bottle-200wEd McCarthy, author of Champagne for Dummies, had an opportunity to visit recently with PIPER-HEIDSIECK Chef de Cave Régis Camus, and came away impressed with the wines they tasted together, including the new Rare Rosé. He writes:

It debuted in Paris two weeks ago; I was fortunate to be the first U.S. wine writer to taste it two days ago, with Régis Camus in New York. In one word, it is…magnificent! The color is as gorgeous as I have seen in a Rosé Champagne: It is a deep salmon pink, just a bit tinged with orange and peach. It is luminous; the Rare Rosé truly stands out in the glass as soon as it is poured. We used perfectly shaped white wine glasses, which enhanced its aromas and flavors (avoid using flutes with this Champagne–or any quality Champagne, for that matter).

The most surprising quality of Piper’s Rare Rosé 2007 is its depth and concentration. Although 2007 is regarded as a good vintage in the Champagne region, it also has the reputation of being rather precocious, with its Champagnes being generally ready to drink soon. Not so the Rare Rosé, for sure. I asked Camus why he chose the 2007 vintage for the Rare Rosé debut. Camus replied that the grapes he chose–56 percent Chardonnay, 44 percent Pinot Noir, mainly from Grand Cru vineyards–were perfect for the Champagne he wanted to produce. The Rare Rosé is elegant, with great finesse. It is subtle, with subdued aromas at this point, but with a purity of concentrated fruit and amazing depth. I would think that it needs ten years to fully develop, and yet it will be enjoyable to drink within five years. I rate the Piper-Heidsieck Rare Rosé 2007 a 98.

It’s a Winderful Life: ‘Piper-Heidsieck’s Rare Rose makes its NY debut’

Piper-Heidsieck’s spectacular new Rare Rosé Millésime 2007 has arrived in New York, and Tracy Ellen Kamens of the “It’s a Winderful Life” blog is one of the first to check in with a report. Here’s an excerpt from her post:

Bringing together an almost equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (56% and 44%, respectively), the wine is delicate and elegant, yet exotic with spice and tea along with red fruit notes of strawberries and raspberries. The spice components linger on the palate throughout the wine’s long length.

While not the most commonly connected food pairing, the Rare Rosé showed beautifully against a backdrop of Tamarind’s high-end Indian cuisine; its exotic elements holding their own with the complex flavors and seasonings of the food.

At $450 per bottle, and with fewer than 800 bottles in the U.S., this is sadly not a wine that I (nor many others) will get to enjoy with any frequency, but, it is a remarkable (and tasty) testament to one man’s perseverance and patience. Santé, Regis!

Rare Rosé Featured in Fortune

rare-rose-2007-bottle-200wA new article from Fortune captures the essence of Piper-Heidsieck’s spectacular Rare Rosé and the house’s move into the highest echelon of Champagne.

In the piece, which appears in the October print edition of Fortune and is now online, writer Shivani Vora describes the Rare Rosé as a bold new offering—“distinctly crisp, fruity, and full-bodied,” gorgeously packaged, and positioned to take advantage of the growing market for rosé Champagne:

Presented in a black lacquered-wood box with rose-gold metallic trim, the Rare Rosé is only the ninth vintage and the first rosé vintage Piper-Heidsieck has released. Only 1,500 bottles—a small fraction of its annual production of 5 million bottles—were produced this year and went on sale in September.

EPI Chairman Christopher Descours was interviewed for the piece, and Vora conveys the passion and commitment he brings to the Rare Rosé  and Piper-Heidsieck:

“This champagne is my chance to make a stamp on Piper and in the world of champagne,” Descours says….

“I love everything about champagne—the freshness, the bubbles, and how easy it is to drink at any time for any occasion,” he says, adding “buying Piper wasn’t just a business decision. It was also a personal one.”

Piper-Heidsieck 2002 Rare Featured at Chardonnay Symposium

rinaldi snip

Roberta Rinaldi, The Examiner’s Beverly Hills wine correspondent, was at the recent Chardonnay Symposium in Pismo Beach, California, where she noted the new, strong presence of French wines. And among those French wines that impressed her was the 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Rare Millésime.

The 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Rare Millésime was a happy reminder to imbibe more of this exquisite Champagne. In 1785, Florins-Louis Heidsieck founded his label with a vow to “make a cuvée worthy of a queen.” Today, Heidsieck’s promise is being realized by cellarmaster, Régis Camus, whom the International Wine Challenge has named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year for the past eight years.

“Rare” is a balance of power and finesse. The grapes, a blend of 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir, are picked from fifteen different crus in the Montagne de Reims. It is vinified in stainless steel and put through full malolactic fermentation. Huge aromatics, starting with a hit of almond croissant, are followed by pear and ginger with earthy notes of mushroom and tea. Lively bubbles carry flavors of bright lemon, crisp apple and tropical fruits, supported by crunchy acid. Elegant, with a creamy texture and a rich, lingering finish. Available at K & L wines, $149.00.

Rich Cook of the Seaside Courier was another wine writer who fell for the 2002 Piper-Heidsieck Rare Millésime at the symposium, selecting it among his five most highly recommended wines from the event. Click here to see his aricle.
